Make a gratitude list.
We know you hear about gratitude a lot, and it’s a great wellness tool for all of us! But we bet you haven’t heard this latest tidbit: Adopting an attitude of gratitude may boost your immune system by helping you conserve energy. Interesting twist, right? According to New York Times bestselling author Joe Dispenza in a recent mindybodygreen podcast, your body is objective and can’t tell the difference between fear caused by an actual experience or fear caused by negative thoughts. All your body understands is that you’re fearful, which boosts your body’s stress response, spiking cortisol levels and causing you to burn through your energy reserves faster. So, Dispenza argues, replacing negative inner dialogue with thoughts of gratitude can help by conserving precious energy, promoting balance and reducing your stress level. There’s all kinds of research to back up Dispenza’s theory. Adopting an attitude of gratitude has been clinically shown to enhance overall wellness, reducing risk of disease and depression, lowering blood pressure, boosting happiness and more.
You truly are what you eat! Certain foods can also help bolster your immune system. Green leafy vegetables, which are packed with antioxidants, top the list. The more green leafies you can incorporate into your diet, the better. Other tips: aim for colorful variety in your fruits and veggies, eat fresh when possible and avoid processed foods.

How’s your sleep lately? If you’ve noticed that it’s not as good as usual, don’t be alarmed. The key is to continue practicing good sleep hygiene anyway so you won’t fall too far off the beam. Good sleep habits include going to bed at your usual time, avoiding blue light from the computer, TV or phone, and keeping the room cool, dark and quiet. Sleep truly is a powerful wellness weapon. In a study in 164 healthy adults, those who slept fewer than six hours each night were more likely to catch a cold than those who slept six hours or more each night.
