Skin Cancer

It’s estimated that one in five Americans will develop skin cancer by the age of 70. In addition to a successful removal of the cancer, it’s normal to be concerned about the appearance of the treated area, particularly with facial skin cancer. Board-certified plastic surgeon, Dr. Kevin Bridge, is well-versed in performing reconstructive surgery following skin cancer removal, helping patients to restore their appearance and minimize scars and other noticeable indications of surgery.

MOHS

MOHS surgery is a microscopic surgical technique for removing common types of skin cancer. Thin layers of skin are progressively removed until only cancer-free skin remains, leaving the surrounding healthy tissue unaffected. The Mohs technique is designed to minimize the possibility of a scar, yet reconstruction is sometimes required to repair and restore a patient’s appearance.

  • Most likely your health insurance plan will cover your reconstruction surgery. To be sure, we recommend that you contact your insurer before any procedures are scheduled.

  • It’s normal to be concerned about your appearance following cancer surgery and reconstruction. Restoring your skin as close as possible to its pre-cancer condition is our main objective, including minimizing any scars or other noticeable changes. We will also recommend additional treatments you may wish to consider following reconstruction to restore and improve your skin’s natural appearance.

  • Each patient’s reconstruction is unique, so recovery times will vary. Dr. Bridge will let you know what you can expect regarding recovery time during your consultation.
